The Wessuc Adventure

  1. Chapter 1 - The Dreamer's Quest

    From vision to reality

In a land not so far away, two brothers, Shane and Hank VanVeen, had a dream as big as the tallest mountain. They wanted to make the world a greener place—not by slaying dragons, but by turning waste into value. With a passion for biosolids and a sprinkle of innovation, they founded Wessuc in 2000. Armed with their knowledge, a strong survival instinct, and a shared love for the environment, they set out on a quest to improve soil and protect water, proving that even the most unexpected heroes can change the world, one tank at a time.
  2. Chapter 2 - The Team of Champions

    Building a united team

As their adventure unfolded, Shane and Hank realized they needed a band of merry men (and women) to join their cause. Enter Shawn Whalen, a vacuum truck operator with a knack for organization. He was like the Robin Hood of operations, ensuring everything ran smoothly while keeping the team focused on their mission. Then came Phil Cron, a sales wizard who could charm the socks off a dragon. With his magic touch, he helped spread the word about Wessuc far and wide, making responsible waste management fun and rewarding!

As the company grew, so did the team. Today, Wessuc proudly boasts over 135 dedicated employees across various departments, including Operations, Logistics, Finance, Sales, IT, and HR. Each team member shares the vision of Shane, Hank, Shawn, and Phil, united by a common purpose: “As passionate stewards of our world, we champion clean water and fertile soil.” Together, they embody the values of Balance, Joy, Respect, and Responsibility, ensuring that every action taken is rooted in care for the environment and the community.

  3. Chapter 3 - The Trials and Triumphs

    Overcoming obstacles together

Like any great tale, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. From their first digester contract with the City of Hamilton to taking over land application programs in Brantford and Barrie, the brothers faced muddy roads and tricky tank clean-outs. In 2006, they created the world’s first flow-controlled drag line system using GPS technology, showcasing their commitment to innovation. With laughter and teamwork, they turned every obstacle into an opportunity, proving that the status quo is never enough.
  4. Chapter 4 - The Family of Heroes

    A community of passionate stewards

As the years rolled on, Wessuc transformed into more than just a company; it became a family united by a shared mission. With over 135 dedicated employees, each person brings their unique talents and perspectives to the table, creating a vibrant workplace filled with camaraderie and laughter.

From the operations team working tirelessly in the field to the logistics crew ensuring everything runs smoothly, every member plays a crucial role in the adventure. Together, they celebrate successes, tackle challenges, and support one another, fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Wessuc is a place where friendships flourish, and team members cheer each other on, whether it’s during a project milestone or a personal milestone. This spirit of collaboration and mutual respect inspires everyone to dream big and think green, ensuring that the legacy of Wessuc will continue to thrive for generations to come.

  5. Chapter 5 - The Commitment to Innovation

    A culture of continuous improvement

Wessuc stands tall as a beacon of hope in the world of waste management. With Shawn and Phil by their side, the VanVeen brothers continue to innovate and inspire. They may not wear capes, but they are heroes in their own right, dedicated to constantly improving processes and finding new ways to meet customer needs. From CCTV inspections to dewatering solutions, they are committed to making a greener and safer place to live, work, and play.
  6. Chapter 6: The Adventure Continues

    Embracing new challenges together

As Wessuc looks to the future, the adventure is far from over. With a safety-first mindset and a quest for the latest technological advances, they are ready to tackle new challenges. Whether it’s cleaning lagoons or providing spot repair services, they are dedicated to turning waste into value. So, join us on this whimsical journey as we continue to make a difference, one project at a time! Together, with our growing team, we champion clean water and fertile soil for a sustainable future.
