What is Grouting?
Grouting is the use of a chemical sealant to stop pipeline leaks and infiltration, while also preventing erosion around the outside of a pipe. This preventative maintenance can protect sewers from further infiltration, water level sags, holes, sink holes, and more.
Grouting is a much cheaper option than treating ground water with less risk of backup due to overwhelming pump stations.
Variables
The application of the grout depends on where the infiltration is coming from. Our grouting unit repairs leaks in laterals, mainlines, and manholes with the ability to fix pipes up to 600mm in diameter.
Why Grout?
Water infiltration reduces the wastewater system capacity for treating sewage, by processing unwanted ground water instead. Preventing infiltration reduces the plant loading and effluent discharge volume.
Grouting and spot repair go hand in hand. Any infiltration needs to be stopped before spot repair is done. If leaks are still active they create a bubble or wrinkle in the liner.
Spot Repair
Spot repair or point repair lining is a resin and patch system that adheres to the inside of a pipe to fix structural defects and prevent further damage to pipe. This restores a pipe's functionality without the need for excavation, offering a non-intrusive, environmentally friendly solution. At Wessuc, we use a UV Light Cured In Place Pipe system which uses UV light to cure the resin. The UV CIPP System has a cure time of 8 minutes.
A spot repair is used when the integrity of a pipe is compromised by a defect. Applying a spot repair will increase the longevity of a pipe and lower its risk of failure. Spot repair goes hand in hand with cutting and grouting.
